Biography |
Sanford M. "Sandy" Brook joined Judicial Arbiter Group, Inc. in April, 2004 after sixteen years on the bench in Indiana. Sandy is the former Chief Judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals. Prior to service on the appellate bench, Brook spent twelve years on the trial bench in South Bend, Indiana. In his last three years on the trial bench he also served as Chief Judge.
Following law school, Brook served as an Assistant City Attorney and then as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in St. Joseph County, Indiana before he entered private practice. As a trial lawyer he was involved in over 100 jury trials. As a trial judge he presided over 190 jury and 600 bench trials. While on the Indiana Court of Appeals he authored over 700 appellate opinions. While a judge, he promoted alternative dispute resolution in the Indiana court system by serving as a judicial mediator and conducting numerous settlement conferences at both the trial and appellate levels.
Since 1987, Brook has taught extensively in the areas of Evidence and Trial Advocacy. As an Adjunct Professor at the Notre Dame Law School he taught both basic and advanced trial advocacy courses. In 1999, Sandy Brook was appointed Adjunct Professor at the Indiana University Law School in Bloomington. He presently serves as the Litigation Training Consultant to one of the largest law firms in the US, a position he has held for 15 years.
He has taught Evidence in the Indiana Bar Review Course. Active in the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) he has taught advocacy internationally in Canada, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Thailand, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico. |
