Biography |
Peter has been practicing since 1978 in New Hampshire and Maine. Peter can best be described as a small town, general practice trial lawyer. He was a founding partner at McNeill & Taylor in Dover, New Hampshire, where he practiced until 2015, focusing on insurance defense and Plaintiff civil litigation. Peter has also had an active family law practice, with a focus over the past decade on ADR. Peter has been lead counsel in well over 50 jury trials involving a wide range of issues, obtained several verdicts in excess of $1 million, including a $12 million verdict in Federal Court in Maine, one of the largest personal injury verdicts in Maine. Peter has also had hundreds of bench trials. His trials have covered a wide range of issues, including general personal injury, medical malpractice, civil rights, construction, land use, probate/trusts, insurance coverage, business disputes, contracts and many other areas.
Although Peter finds that the trial experience and skills help settle cases in mediation, other natural character traits of patience, curiosity and empathy are equally important. Peter has maintained an active mediation and arbitration practice in New Hampshire for 25 years since the creation of mandatory mediation. He has served as a mediator in approximately 1,500 cases over the past 20 years. He has completed numerous mediation training programs, is a frequent speaker on mediation and litigation subjects, and has served as an instructor and judge for law school trial programs.
