Joe received his B.A. degree in Communications Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota in 1987 and his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1992. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1993, Joe focused his litigation practice on employment-related matters (including discrimination, wage and hour, whistle-blower, workers’ comp retaliation, FMLA, FLSA, breach of contract), personal injury and product liability cases, and other related civil matters.  Since January 2016 Joe is a full-time mediator.

Joe is an active member of the Missouri and Kansas state bar associations, as well as the federal courts located in both of those states.  He argued cases before the 8th and 10th Circuit Federal Courts of Appeals.  

An accomplished full-time mediator in most civil case types since 2016, Joe has conducted over 1500 mediations nationwide.  As a practicing attorney for 25+ years, Joe represented hundreds of individuals and companies in all phases of litigation, including 20+ trials and hundreds mediations.

In 2003 Joe completed mediator training at the University of Missouri and now serves as a skilled, knowledgeable mediator in most civil-related matters throughout the Midwest. He mediates approximately 150 cases per year all throughout the United States with a high success rate. He has been recognized by his peers as a Missouri and Kansas “Super Lawyer” in Labor/Employment Law and/or Mediation every year since 2007. Joe brings a unique "every man's" perspective to his mediation practice and believes that his success as a mediator stems from his ability to listen intently to both sides, empathize with each party, and creatively work through difficult situations to reach successful resolution.
