Pat attended undergraduate at Marycrest College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Pre-Law, magna cum laude, in 1992. Pat then attended Drake University Law School, where he received his Juris Doctorate, with honors, in 1995. While at Drake Law School, he was a member of the National ATLA Mock Trial Team, a member of Delta Theta Phi and received the Academic Achievement Award in Advanced Problem Torts. Pat was also Articles Editor for the Drake University Agricultural and Food Law Journal.

He joined the Patterson Law Firm in 1995. Pat is a member of the Polk County, Iowa State (including the Litigation and Workers’ Compensation Section), and American Bar Associations
Litigation Section. He has served in several committees including Civil Litigation, Legislative Committee, Workers’ Compensation Legislative Committee, Co-Chair of the Iowa CLE Seminar
Committee for the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Iowa Bar Association. Pat has been a speaker at the Iowa Workers’ Compensation Symposium, the Iowa Workers’ Compensation
Lawyers Annual Seminar and the Iowa State Bar Association Seminar on topics including bad faith litigation, penalty benefits, trial presentation, cumulative injury law and ethics. Volunteer Associations and Memberships 

Pat is active in civic and charitable organizations including the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Beaverdale Little League, Van Meter Booster Club, Iowa Soccer Association and Iowa Housing
Fund.
