Biography |
Andrea Leahy Fuchek, Esquire is engaged in the private mediation and arbitration of civil disputes with a concentration on business disputes and the facilitation of the resolution of corporate and public policy disputes and issues. She is also engaged in the private practice of law. M’s Leahy-Fuchek’s law practice Leahy & DeSmet, LLC, where she is the Managing Member and handles primarily Intellectual Property and business litigation.
Andrea has had the unique experience of working at the federal, state and local levels, as an Assistant United States Attorney, Chief Counsel to the Governor of Maryland, and an Associate County Attorney for Prince George’s County. She has engaged in all aspects of civil discovery, trials, mediation, and appellate proceedings in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the Maryland trial courts, the Maryland Court of Appeals, and the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and brings the knowledge gained from those experiences as well as the skills developed to her role as a mediator and arbitrator.
Andrea has also developed a strong regulatory and administrative law practice. The success of her practice is based on problem solving and navigating the complex system of laws and regulations to the client’s advantage without unnecessary confrontation. These skills which have heretofore benefitted her clients will be brought to bear by Andrea Leahy-Fuchek as she is called upon to mediate in an area where ADR has heretofore not been widely utilized – the area of disputes between administrative agencies and citizens – The regulators and the regulated. Historically problem solving has not been the focus of the parties to these disputes, but it can be and it should be. As Andrea Leahy-Fuchek along with mediation and public and corporate policy facilitation emerge on the cutting edge of Alternative Dispute Resolution in this new area, both will be in greater and greater demand.
Andrea was named among Maryland’s top 40 Legal Elite in 2005 and 2006, and was named by Superlawyers Magazine as one of the top attorneys in Maryland and the Washington D.C. area for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. She was also selected by The Daily Record as one of the Top 100 Women in Maryland in 2005 and again in 2007. Andrea was also a recipienet of the prestigious Leadership In Law Award from the Daily Record in 2010. |
