Judge Patrick K.S.L. Yim received his B.A. degree from the University of Hawaii in 1964 and his LL.B. degree from Boston University School of Law in 1967. |

Throughout his career, Judge Yim has actively participated in numerous professional civic organizations, including the following: President of the Malama Na Keiki Foundation; Member of 200 Club; Member of the Civilian Advisory Group, US Army Pacific; Chairman of the Traditional Peacemaking Committee for the Native Hawaiian Bar Association; Member of the Board of the Institute for Human Services; Member of Hawaiian Lodge F.&A.M; Member of the Pualeilani Choral Group; Member Pa kui a lua; Former Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Hawaii Family Support Center. Judge Yim was the recipient of the 1998 Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce O’O Award, recognizing his outstanding service to the community. |
Biography |
Prior to commencing his judicial career in February of 1971, Judge Yim served as a Field Attorney with the National Labor Relations Board and as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the City & County of Honolulu. Before assignment to the Circuit Court, he served in the Family Court of the First Circuit, State of Hawaii. Throughout his judicial career, Judge Yim served on numerous committees and in various assignments, including Administrative Judge of the Civil Division, Probate, Trust & Guardianship divisions, Court Annexed Arbitration Judge, and Chairperson of the Judicial Arbitration Commission for the Court Annexed Arbitration Program. During his twenty-four years on the Bench, he presided over hundreds of cases as a trial and settlement judge, in the areas of domestic relations, juvenile, criminal, civil, probate, trust and guardianship law.
Since his retirement from the Judiciary in December of 1994, Judge Yim has devoted his judicial skills to ADR on a full time basis. He has mediated/arbitrated well over 200 cases in a wide variety of areas. Judge Yim has also presided over contested elections, and has served as a fact-finder in employment and complex trust administration matters. Judge Yim periodically serves as a legal advisor to the City & County of Honolulu, Department of the Corporation Counsel in highly complex cases. He also serves on the Appellate ADR Program with the Judiciary. |
