He was admitted to the Minnesota State Bar in 1974 and to the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1985. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, and the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit.

Mr. Kelly served on the Minnesota State Board of Law Examiners for 21 years, 11 of those as President. He is a member of the Minnesota State Bar and the State Bar of Wisconsin, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Mr. Kelly has over 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer, representing insurers, individuals and corporate clients in tort actions and commercial disputes, professional liability, contract, employment and personal injury matters. Mr. Kelly is a frequent instructor in trial advocacy programs for other attorneys.

Mr. Kelly received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University and his J.D. cum laude from the University of Minnesota.
