James E. O’Neil served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Boston, MA and Providence, RI prior to being elected as Attorney General for the State of Rhode Island. He is an experienced litigator who appears before the State and Federal Courts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts on a regular basis. As a prosecutor, O’Neil conducted hundreds of grand jury investigations and successfully tried a myriad of cases. He has defended a number high profile public officials, charged with violations of the public trust. He has personally appeared in a minor role in the television series, L.A. Law. Mr. O’Neil also addresses significant personal injury and wrongful death matters.

He is an Arbitrator certified by the American Arbitrators Association. James E. O’Neil enjoys an A.V. (very high to pre-eminent) Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating. He is an honorable discharged member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Early in his career, O’Neil served as an investigator with the United States Senate and as a consultant to the White House. He also served as a planner with the Los Angeles Police Department and the Fremont, California Police Department.
