Richard J. Ganucheau brings a wide range of experience and expertise. Judge Ganucheau served as Judge for the Civil District Court, Parish of Orleans from 1980 to 2002.
After his retirement from the bench, he was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to complete a statewide class action case involving a major cigarette manufacturing companies. That multi-year litigation was concluded in 2004.
By appointment of the Louisiana Supreme Court, Judge Ganucheau also served on the Court of Appeal, First Circuit and currently serves as an ad hock judge for the Civil District Court, Parish of Orleans. During his tenure on the bench, Judge Ganucheau presided over thousands of civil litigation cases, including damage, domestic relations, contract, insurance, maritime, medical malpractice, product liability, employment law, and class actions.
In addition, he had extensive experience managing complex litigation. Judge Ganucheau was elected Chief Judge of the Civil District Court, Parish of Orleans by his fellow judges and served on the Executive Committee of the Court. He was also elected President of the Fourth and Fifth Circuit Judges Association and the Orleans Trial Judges Association. Before being elected to the bench, Judge Ganucheau practiced law for 15 years. His practice included all types of civil litigation, representing both plaintiffs, and defendants. Judge Ganucheau also served as Clerk of Civil District Court, Parish of Orleans from 1974 through 1979. In 2005, Judge Ganucheau was appointed by Governor Kathleen B. Blanco as an at-large member of the Board of Louisiana River Pilot Review and Oversight.
Judge Ganucheau has served as lecturer, panel member, and team leader for several bar groups, including the Louisiana Judicial College, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. |
