Biography |
Judge James P. McCarthy was appointed to the Cook County Circuit Court in 1996. From 2003 to his retirement in 2019, Judge McCarthy sat in the Law Division. During his tenure on the bench, he developed a reputation as an effective pre-trial judge.
Prior to beginning his judicial career, Judge McCarthy served in the Corporation Counsel office for the City of Chicago in the Litigation Division. In this capacity, he defended the City of Chicago and its employees in civil litigation. He litigated in both State and Federal courts. |
