Education |
Judge Granier earned his Master's Degree in Judicial Studies from the University of Nevada (National Judicial College) in 2010 with a secondary study emphasis in alternative dispute resolution through the school's professional certification program in Dispute Resolution Skills. He has served as a Faculty Facilitator for the National Judicial College's Civil Mediation Course and as a Discussion Leader for multiple courses in the school's nationally preeminent judicial education program. He earned two professional multi-year & course certifications from the National Judicial College in Judicial Development: General Jurisdiction Trial Skills and Dispute Resolution Skills as well as three Certificates and one Advanced Certificate in Civil Mediation. Judge Granier also served as an instructor for the Trial Defense and Advocacy Course at the Judge Advocate General's School at Air University in addition to serving on the U.S. Air Force JAG Corp TRIALS Team which instructs Air Force Attorneys in trial advocacy tactics using the National Institute of Trial Advocacy method (NITA). |
Biography |
Judge Kirk Granier is a retired Louisiana District Court Judge (1997 – 2008) and retired United States Circuit Military Judge, U.S. Air Force reserve (1998 – 2006). He received extensive judicial training through the National Judicial College at the University of Nevada and the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General's School, Air University at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. He has applied mediation and dispute resolution techniques in numerous pre-trial conferences during his judicial tenure. Judge Granier practiced civil and criminal law for 14 years (1983 - 1997) before assuming his two judicial careers.
In addition to private law practice he served for 30 years in the United States Air Force (4 years active; 26 years reserve). He served in its Judge Advocate General's Corp (JAG) as an assistant Staff Judge Advocate with labor law, civil claims, government contracts and administrative law experience in addition to assignments as a prosecutor, defense counsel and Military Judge, attaining the rank of Colonel. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Alternative Dispute Resolution section of the Louisiana State Bar Association where he is dual listed as a Civil Mediator and Child Custody/Visitation Mediator. |
