Chet's formal training in mediation started in 2001 with four days of certified mediation training by the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the State Bar of Minnesota. Completion of that training enabled him to be listed as a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice, a listing he maintains. He is also certified as a mediator in Iowa by the Iowa Association of Mediators.

He has attended numerous continuing legal education events, including the seminars Resolution and Resilience, in New York in 2004 and Advanced Mediation and Advocacy Skills in Toronto in 2006, both sponsored by the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association. In 2007 and again in 2009 he participated in two and one half day advanced mediation skills programs offered by Pepperdine University and the Vermont School of Law.

Chet has participated in several teleconferences, some of which have explored how the science of human behavior affects parties at mediation. He attended the Fourteenth Annual ADR Institute sponsored by the CLE committee of the Minnesota State Bar Association on October 14 and 15, 2011. The science of human behavior in the context of mediation was presented by the author of a highly regarded book on that subject.

Chet continues to improve both his mediation and litigation skills through his membership in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution sections of the American Bar Association and their publications.
