Pascal Calogero served as an elected justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court for 36 years, the latter 18 of which he served as Chief Justice. Upon retirement from the Supreme Court, Justice Calogero returned to the practice of law in 2009.

While on the Supreme Court, he participated in over 6,000 oral arguments and published Supreme Court opinions, and authored over 1,000 majority opinions, concurrences, and dissents. For over three decades, including since 1990 as Chief Justice, he played a significant role in the Supreme Court’s consistently current docket, notwithstanding the tripling of annual court filings since 1973.

Since retirement, Judge Calogero is engaged in an appellate law practice and ADR. He is the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Loyola University College of Law. In 1991, he received the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s Distinguished Jurist Award. In 2005, Chief Justice Calogero received the Beacon of Justice Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates’ Southeast Chapter, recognizing him as jurist of the year.

In 2007, the American Judicature Society awarded Chief Justice Calogero the Fourth Annual Dwight D. Opperman Award for Judicial Excellence, an award presented annually to a state judge of a trial or appellate court who has had a career of distinguished judicial service.
