Biography |
Judge Gilbert began her legal career as a justice of the peace in Bloomfield Township and appeared in that role as a guest on the former popular CBS national television quiz show, "What's My Line?" wherein a panel of celebrities had to determine what their guest did for a living. Judge Gilbert went on to become the first woman elected district judge in Bloomfield Township in 1968 (receiving the most votes for a district-court judgeship in Michigan) and served in that capacity until she was elected the first woman judge in Oakland County Circuit Court in 1976 (only the third woman elected to a circuit-court judgeship since Michigan's statehood). Judge Gilbert founded and organized the Michigan District Judges' Association in 1969, drafted its constitution and by-laws, and served as its first president until 1971. |
