Education |
In 1967, Mr. Ayabe received a Bachelors of Arts degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He pursued his legal education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, and obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1970. He was admitted to the Hawaii State Bar in 1970. |

Mr. Ayabe is a member of the Hawaii State Bar (treasurer, 1983; secretary, 1993; vice-president, 1994; president, 1995), American Bar Association, the American College of Trial Lawyers (state chairperson, 1993-1994, 2002-2004), the American Board of Trial Advocates, Phi Delta Phi, Hawaii Defense Lawyers Association (treasurer, 1988-1989; vice-president, 1990-1994, and director, 1994-2000), and International Association of Defense Counsel (State Committee Chair, 2003-2005).
He served on three Federal Merit Selection Panels for the selection of two federal magistrates, and served as the chairperson for the retention of another in 1998, 1999, and 2000, respectively. He served as a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference (1999-2001). He served a six-year term (2001-2007) on the Judicial Selection Commission and was its Chairperson from 2004-2006. Mr. Ayabe is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and The Best Lawyers in Hawaii. |
