Biography |
Judge Williams served as a Superior Court Judge for 14 years. The majority of her time was spent managing and resolving civil matters thru trial and settlement. Because of her background in Environmental law she was designated the Environmental Judge for vicinage 13. During her last years on the bench she was the Presiding Chancery Judge for the tri-county vicinage. This expanded her legal repertoire to include resolution of equitable matters such as shareholder disputes, business dissolutions, labor related disputes and probate matters. She decided and issued opinions on significant cases in the area of land use deciding difficult topics such as easement by prescription.
Prior to going on the bench she handled both plaintiffs and defendants cases for the State of New Jersey dealing with tort, medical malpractice, employment, civil rights, construction and environmental cases (including Spill Fund and environmental defense). She was ultimately promoted to section Chief of the Tort Section where she supervised other attorneys advising them on trial strategy and evaluated cases for settlement, including outside counsel for the University of Medicine and Dentistry. In addition she continued to litigate her own cases.
Since retiring, in addition to her full time dispute resolution practice she has continued to teach continuing legal education for bar associations and Gann Law Books on topics such as Construction Litigation, Damages and Dispute Resolution. Additionally, she is an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University, teaching Persuasion and Advocacy, Deposition techniques and all forms of Dispute Resolution.
She is an approved Superior Court arbitrator and mediator; approved Mediator for NJ Attorney General’s cases and an approved mediator for cases in the Federal Court for the District of New Jersey. |
