When he was an attorney with Briggs & Morgan from 1984 until 1995, Paul litigated hundreds of cases in numerous areas of the law, including construction, commercial, personal injury, insurance coverage, professional design malpractice, real estate, aircraft purchasing, equine law, environmental law, and mechanic's liens. He has also handled appellate cases before the Minnesota Court of Appeals, the Minnesota Supreme Court, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. 

Since 1995, he has been providing ADR services in the upper Midwest. His arbitrations and mediations have concentrated in the areas of construction, commercial, personal injury, family law and real estate. He has conducted over 1,000 mediations, the vast majority of which have resulted in settlement.
