Biography

Professor Weatherspoon is recognized as one of the leading arbitrators and mediators in the country. He serves on a number of labor and employment panels, including Resolute, the FMCS, the American Arbitration Association, and the CPR. Professor Weatherspoon has served as a mediator/arbitrator in hundreds of workplace disputes and was a contributing editor to the leading book on labor arbitration, ELKOURI, HOW ARBITRATION WORKS; BNA, 6th ed., 2003.

Prior to joining Capital University Law School, Professor Weatherspoon was the Director of Counseling, Mediation, and Settlement at TVA, a federal corporation where he supervised a staff of federal mediators. He received the Bronze Award from TVA for developing and implementing one of the first mediation programs in a federal agency for resolving workplace disputes. He presently serves on the Editorial Board of Conflict Resolution Quarterly and is the Director of Minority ADR Initiatives at Capital. Professor Weatherspoon has extensive experience in the field of Employment Discrimination. He presently serves as a Mediator with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as an External Administrative Judge.

Professor Weatherspoon is a frequent speaker at national conferences on topics related to EEO/Diversity. Professor Weatherspoon also conducts a 40-hour course on Mediating Employment Discrimination Disputes, as well as a series of seminars for managers on human resources and preventing discrimination in the workplace. He conducts national training programs on all aspects of employment discrimination & affirmative action, labor arbitration, mediation of employment discrimination complaints and accommodations under state and federal laws.

Professor Weatherspoon has also trained more than 400 individuals in a 40-hour mediation skills program. Professor Weatherspoon has extensive experience in the mediation of employment, labor and employment discrimination disputes. He has served as a hearing officer, arbitrator, fact finder and mediator in more than 500 disputes involving complaints of discrimination, labor, and employment in the public & private sector.
