She has and continues to serve as a Continuing Legal Education speaker for the Louisiana Judicial College, Louisiana Judicial Council/NBA, American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, Louis A. Martinet Society, New Orleans Bar Association, and other legal and professional organizations.

Currently Judge Gill-Jefferson serves on the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Bench Bar Committee and Ethics Committee. She is also a member of the Louisiana Supreme Court’s Uniform Rules of Court Committee.

Carolyn W. Gill-Jefferson served for twelve years as a Judge of Civil District Court, for the Parish of Orleans. Prior to her election Judge Gill-Jefferson practiced law for fifteen years and served by appointment of the Louisiana Supreme Court as Judge ad hoc of the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court.

During her tenure at Civil District Court, Judge Gill-Jefferson presided over thousands of civil litigation matters involving, personal injuries, contract disputes, domestic relations, maritime claims, medical malpractice, class actions, products liability and successions.

Judge Gill-Jefferson served as Chief Judge of the Civil District Court for a two year term beginning January, 2003. She also served as President of the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts.
