Biography |
Thomas B. Helbig received his BA from the University of Scranton in 1977 and his JD cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1981. Following graduation, he served as law clerk to US District Judge Richard P. Conaboy in the US Middle District of Pennsylvania for two years. Prior to beginning his solo practice in 2008, he was a partner in the Scranton law firm of Scanlon, Howley & Doherty for seventeen (17) years and, previous to that, a partner in the Wilkes-Barre law firm of Hourigan, Kluger, & Quinn P.C. for nine (9) years.
Mr. Helbig focuses his present practice on mediation and arbitration work. He was previously appointed to the position of Settlement Master in the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County under newly revised Local Rule 212. Since the inception of the Mediation Program in Lackawanna County several years ago, he has mediated more than two thousand (2000) civil cases for the Court. He also previously served as Interim Discovery Master and as a court-appointed Special Trial Master in Lackawanna County presiding over jury and non-jury trials. Over the last several years, he has conducted more than five thousand (5000) mediations and arbitrations in third party and first party civil cases involving professional negligence, personal injury, including motor vehicle, product liability, and premises liability claims, insurance disputes, bad faith, employment law, and construction contract claims. |
